Even the strongest hearts long for the comfort of a mother's love.
There are some days that catch you completely off guard.
Days when you smile for everyone else, carry your responsibilities, show up for your family, encourage others, and keep moving… until something inside quietly whispers,
"I just want my mom."
That was me today.
I had one of those days where all I wanted to do was run to my mother, lay my head on her lap, and cry. I wanted to hear her tell me that everything was going to be okay, just like she always did.
Then reality gently reminded me that she is in a place where she cannot return.
For a moment, my heart became heavy.
It's been many years since I lost my mom. Time has moved on. Life has continued. I've grown into a woman, a wife, a mother, and someone many people now look to for encouragement. But here's something I've learned...
No matter how old we become, we never really stop needing our mothers.
Everyone Needs Their Mom
We may grow up.
We may build careers.
We may become spouses.
We may become parents ourselves.
We may learn how to carry the weight of life.
Yet, there are moments when nothing compares to the comfort of a mother's embrace.
There is something about a mother's presence that makes life's storms feel a little less frightening. Her voice has a way of calming our fears. Her hugs remind us that we are loved without conditions.
And when she is no longer here, those moments can leave an ache that words struggle to describe.
Even a Mom Needs Her Own Mother
As mothers, we're often expected to be the strong ones.
We're the comforters.
The problem-solvers.
The shoulders everyone leans on.
But who do we lean on when life becomes heavy?
Sometimes, no matter how old we become, we still long for the comfort only a mother's embrace can bring.
Because the truth is...
Even a mom needs her own mother.
There is no age limit on missing someone who loved you unconditionally.
There is no expiration date on grief.
There is no "correct" timeline for healing.
Give Yourself Permission to Feel
One of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves is permission.
Permission to cry.
Permission to remember.
Permission to laugh at old memories.
Permission to miss them.
Permission to heal without guilt.
Healing isn't pretending you're okay.
Healing is allowing yourself to feel what your heart needs to feel without shame.
Some days you'll be strong.
Other days you'll fall apart.
Both days are part of healing.
If You're Missing Your Mom Today...
If today has been difficult...
If you've found yourself wishing you could hear her voice one more time...
If you've reached for your phone before remembering she won't answer...
Please know this:
You're not weak.
You're not broken.
You're grieving someone whose love shaped your life.
Love doesn't end when someone leaves this earth.
It continues through the lessons they taught us.
It lives in the kindness we show others.
It shines through the way we love our own children.
Your mother's love still lives through you.
If Your Mom Is Still Here...
If you're blessed to still have your mom, don't wait for a special occasion to tell her you love her.
Life is fragile, and tomorrow is never promised.
Maybe you don't always agree.
Maybe your relationship isn't perfect.
Maybe you've argued.
Maybe there are wounds that still need healing.
But if there is an opportunity to love, to forgive, to reconnect, or simply to let her know she matters, take it.
Call her.
Text her.
Visit her.
Hug her.
Pray with her.
Laugh with her.
I don't care what you have to do, but don't let pride, busyness, or yesterday's disagreements rob you of today's opportunity to love her.
One day, many of us would give anything just to hear our mother's voice one more time... to receive one more hug... to hear her say, "Everything is going to be alright."
If you still have that opportunity today, don't take it for granted.
Show her your love.
Show her your appreciation.
Tell her how much she means to you.
Flowers can wait.
Birthdays can wait.
Mother's Day can wait.
Love shouldn't.
And if your mother is no longer here, honor her by carrying forward the love, kindness, and strength she poured into you. Let her legacy live on through the way you love others.
Because at the end of the day...
Everyone needs their mom.
And while some of us can only hold on to memories, others still have the precious gift of making new ones.
Don't waste that gift.
A Final Thought
lf yours is no longer here, know that it's okay to miss her even decades later.
Love like that never truly leaves us.
Take whatever it takes to heal.
You are loved.
You are seen.
And you never have to walk this journey alone.
With love,
